“R. Agazzi” Primary School building extension [230]
Isola Vicentina (VI), Italy
340 m² 1100 m³
design: 2021
The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for more flexible buildings capable of adapting to sudden changes. The expansion of the dining hall at the R. Agazzi primary school addresses this challenge with a modular and versatile building designed to respond quickly to the increase in full-time students while also allowing for future uses.
The modular construction system enables gradual installation based on available resources, while maintaining a clear vision of the final design. The building, approximately 120 square meters in size, is elevated on pilotis and connected to the first floor of the existing dining hall, with the option for independent use thanks to an external staircase.
The ground floor, initially intended for outdoor activities, can later be enclosed with a glass façade and transformed into educational spaces, which can be divided using movable walls.
Great attention has been given to the comfort of the spaces, through the study of natural light, landscape views, and finishes designed to meet the needs of school-age children. This approach ensures a flexible and long-lasting investment for the school community.
