PRIVATE HOUSE [137]

Thiene (VI), Italy
680 m²  2000 m³
energy demand: 14 kWh/m² per year – energy class: A+
design:  2007 – 2008
built:  2010 – 2012

The building is located on a plot of approximately 1,400 m² in a residential area of Thiene, in the province of Vicenza. The site plan design draws inspiration from the shape of the lot, with elongated volumes oriented parallel to the access road. The first floor, characterized by a “C” shape closed towards the north, features a long window positioned above eye level, designed to limit views of the surrounding buildings and ensure greater privacy.

The building’s base consists of two simple volumes interrupted at the road, offering a partial view of the garden. The residence stands out for its introspective character: the internal façade opens southward with large windows overlooking the landscape. On the ground floor, the living area is conceived as a fluid, open space, where the kitchen extends eastward, transforming into a loggia that faces the lawn.
The gently sloping terrain leads to the basement level, which houses the garage, service rooms, and recreational areas. These spaces benefit from natural light thanks to a large east-facing window, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere.
A straight staircase leads to the first floor, entirely dedicated to the sleeping area. At the top, the view extends outward through the large openings that connect to terraces located on the opposing facades.
The ground floor is divided into two distinct volumes: the larger one houses the main living areas, while the smaller one contains an independent apartment.

The building is designed following criteria of energy sustainability and responsible material usage. The roof hosts systems powered by renewable energy sources and serves as a rainwater collector: rainwater is gathered, filtered, and stored for secondary residential uses.
The materials chosen are traditional and “primary” – wood, metal and glass.
